PSYCHOMETRIC TESTING

What are psychometric tests?

They are structured, pencil-and-paper (or sometimes computer-based) exercises, often presented in the form of multiple-choice questions. They are designed to assess your reasoning abilities or how well you respond to different situations. The tests are carefully researched, designed and trialled to ensure that they provide valid assessments. The tests are administered in a formal manner. In order to give you an idea of what the tests are like, we will send you a practice test several days in advance.

Psychometric testing is used by many employers when they recruit staff. It is also used by careers guidance specialists to help their clients understand where their strengths lie and to help them choose a career appropriate to their skills and interests.

In accordance with the good practice guidelines issued by the British Psychological Society, we offer feedback on your test performance.
You can find out more about psychometric tests by visiting the British Psychological Society website at www.bps.org.uk

Career Paths offers two types of psychometric tests
the Morrisby Profile and the Saville and Holdsworth (SHL) Aptitude Tests
(GAP series - GAP 2 and GAP 3).

SHL general ability Tests

We use two SHL general ability tests, known as GAP 2 and GAP 3.
These both measure verbal, numerical and spatial reasoning skills. GAP 2 is designed to predict how you might perform at ‘A’ level or at NVQ 3 level, and GAP 3 is designed to do the same for the graduate level. They are also useful for predicting how well you might perform in particular jobs or on particular courses. You will be given a report that indicates how well you performed.

Morrisby Profile Tests

These cover 3 main areas: ability, style of working, and personality.

The results of the Morrisby Tests are compared and aggregated to provide an overall profile of you. The profile will indicate how well you employ ideas, whether you prefer to deal with information verbally, numerically or diagrammatically, and how resourceful, tenacious and assertive you are. It will also indicate your manual dexterity, the extent of your spatial awareness and knowledge of how things work, your planning style, and your preferred learning and problem-solving styles.

PERSONALITY ASSESSMENTS

Knowing your own personality, your strengths and weaknesses, your interests and motivations, can be a great help when it comes to choosing a career, or moving to a new career, or dealing with personal or relationship issues. Career Paths offers you the opportunity to find out what you are really like and where your strengths lie with the help of two personality questionnaires: the Myers Briggs Type Indicator® and the 16PF5. Career Paths Ltd offers bespoke training and support for individuals hoping to obtain an NVQ in Advice and Guidance at levels 2, 3 & 4, or an NVQ 4 in Careers Education and Guidance. Click Here for further information.

TESTIMONIALS

" I recently contacted Ms Urbach for guidance for myself on my career future, as I had been increasingly finding myself dissatisfied with my work profile and types of assignments.
A session with Lesley really helped me to identify the areas where I was unhappy, and which were indeed working for me, and how areas of my personal life were affecting my perception of my work life. I am now much clearer about how to take things forward and am delighted that I decided to consult her.
I cannot recommend her highly enough for anyone thinking of making career changes….I have undoubtedly saved myself from a costly mistake in changing my work when in fact I simply needed to tweak the edges here and there.
I suggest anyone who is going through a midlife crisis speaks to Lesley before giving away all their worldly possessions and joining an Ashram or something equally dramatic!"
- Simone Plaut - July 2006

"..Lesley listens carefully and her advice is sensible and specific."
