PSYCHOMETRIC TESTS

Psychometric Tests #01

The Morrisby Profile

The Morrisby Profile has established itself among careers guidance specialists and employers as one of the best and more useful psychometric tests for those wishing to decide on a career or educational path.

It is a series of individual 'tests', sometimes called a test battery, which help to assess aptitude and work-related personality. Although the tests are administered in a formal manner, they are not examinations. The results from these tests provide a valuable insight into your ability patterns and the sort of work environment which would suit you best.

How can the Morrisby Profile Help?

The Morrisby Profile finds out what your strengths are and what special aptitudes you may have.

According to the highly respected Morrisby Organisation, when the Morrisby Profile "is used in conjunction with a detailed job analysis, it provides a powerful method of matching applicants to jobs". For example, good verbal ability is associated with many administrative, managerial and people-oriented occupations. In contrast, strong perceptual ability indicates a potential in scientific and engineering areas. The Morrisby Profile can also help to pinpoint your preferred method of studying and learning, for example, indicating whether you would prefer a course with lots of practical activities, or a more academic mode of teaching.

The combined results of the Morrisby tests are used to give you a valuable profile of yourself and of your strengths and limitations.

How long does it take to sit the Profile?

It takes three and a half hours, including an 8-minute break.
Although it sounds hard work, people generally find it interesting
and fun.

Can I see the tests in advance?

You will receive a practice leaflet after you have booked your place.
You can also get a copy of this leaflet by visiting the Morrisby Organisation's website www.morrisby.com

Do I need to bring anything with me?

What age do I need to be?

The Morrisby Profile is suitable for people aged 15 and above who would like to assess their individual strengths to help to choose a career or educational path.

What happens next?

Before sitting the Profile, you will be asked to complete a Morrisby Vocational Questionnaire which seeks information about your vocational interests. The completed Questionnaire will be sent with your test responses to the Morrisby Organisation who will produce a detailed Personal Guidance Report which integrates your interests with your abilities. This report will identify your individual aptitudes and work-related personality and will suggest a number of career areas that might suit you. Gap Tests

General Abilities Profile (or GAP) tests were devised by Saville and Holdworth Ltd. The tests have established themselves among career guidance specialists as a valuable way to match people to particular careers or to particular academic courses, and employers also regularly use them when choosing amongst job applicants.

GAP tests are in three parts.
The Verbal Reasoning Test is a test of comprehension, in which you read a passage and are asked to say whether particular statements based on the passage are true or false.
The Numerical Reasoning Test measures your ability to use and to draw conclusions from numerical data.
The Abstract Reasoning Test involves working out rules that account for changes in diagrams.

The tests are taken under carefully controlled conditions.
The use of calculators is allowed.

How Gap Tests Can Help You
  • They can help you pick jobs and careers which best reflect your talents. For example, good verbal reasoning is associated with many administrative and managerial occupations, while good abstract reasoning indicates a potential in computing and engineering areas.

  • They will give you experience of the kind of tests which employers often set as part of their selection process.
Which of the Gap Tests would suit you?

The GAP tests are designed for three different difficulty levels.
GAP 1 is suitable for people below GCSE level.
GAP 2 is suitable for well-qualified school leavers and adults (good GCSEs, A Levels etc.), those in sixth form or attending further education colleges, and those with formal academic or vocational qualifications.
GAP 3 is suitable for undergraduates, graduates and for those completing higher

TESTIMONIALS

I have received the report and I am so impressed. This report has my son to a 'T'. There is so much information to digest but it has given him such a boost. He has decided to have his gap year and apply to University next year and not defer this year. He doesn't want an interview as he thinks he has all the information he requires but he thanks you for your time.
He has passed his driving test this week and coupled with your report, he is feeling much more possive about the future.
Thank you once again Lesley for your professional help, you have certainly had an immediate effect in the way my son is viewing his future, and how much brighter his career looks.
